Reading: Crowdsourcing

07Sep08

crowdsourcing-drop-in.jpgI started reading Crowdsourcing yesterday. It has the subtitle “How the Power of the Crowd is Driving the Future of Business”, powerful stuff.

The book it written by Jeff Howe a contributing editor at Wired.

But what is Crowdsourcing? Mr Howe likes to define it in two ways.

The White Paper Version: Crowdsourcing is the act of taking a job traditionally performed by a designated agent (usually an employee) and outsourcing it to an undefined, generally large group of people in the form of an open call.

The Soundbyte Version: The application of Open Source principles to fields outside of software.”

I am only half-way through the introduction and already finding it a really enjoyable and informative read.

I will report back on the concepts discussed in this book when I have finished reading it.

For now watch Jeff Howe’s trailer for this new book. It’s great.
